Weekly Watch Photo – Cornelius & Cie Tourbillon Dragon

| By Frank Geelen | 2 min read |

A beautiful photo of an absolute gorgeous watch, to kick off the week. This masterly timepiece is the Cornelius & Cie Tourbillon Dragon and makes a perfect Monochrome’s Weekly Watch Photo.

Master engraver Kees Engelbarts is responsable for the watches of Cornelius & Cie, a relatively young brand specialized in hand-engraving and the Japanese art of Mokume Gane.

The newest creation of Cornelius & Cie is a tourbillon in Damascus steel with a hand engraved dial depicting an imperial dragon. The dragon is made in solid gold, silver plated and oxidized. This is not the first Cornelius & Cie featuring a dragon on the dial, but it is the first one with a tourbillon. The Tourbillon Dragon is a unique piece and is an example of the possibilities Cornelius & Cie offers. The possibilities are of course unlimited…

The Tourbillon Dragon comes in an aberrant size of 44 mm and is (only) 12 mm thick. Cornelius & Cie also offers the Chronosome XY and the Chronosome XY/RDM. The first comes with a skelletonized and engraved A.Schild Calibre AS 690, offering 8 days of power reserve, and comes in a hefty 49 mm case of either red gold or platinum. The latter has an automatic movement, also offering 5 days of power reserve and fully skelletonized and engraved. The Chronosome XY/RDM has a solid silver dial and comes in a moderate 42 mm case made of Damast steel, red or white gold.

Inside ticks a double-barrel movement with a power reserve of 120 hours (5 days) and is cut out and engraved entirely by hand. The movement has 27 jewels and has a beat rate of 21,600 vph.

Credits for the gorgeous photos go to Curtis Thomson who runs a small forum dedicated to independent (or artisan) watchmakers called Tempered-Online.
