Hautlence introduces Destination – the Brand’s First Dual Time-Zone Watch

| By Frank Geelen | 4 min read |
Hautlence Destination 03

We’ve already announced, in our last Weekly Watch Photo, that Hautlence would introduce a new collection today. The new Destination models represents several ‘firsts’ for Hautlence. While the sentence ‘look, no hands’ will sounds familiar for everyone, Hautlence can now say: ‘ look, with hands’. Furthermore the name is chosen for a good reason, because Destination represents Hautlence’s first watches with a dual time-zone indication.

Hautlence also announced to create two ‘labels’ in the collection, the ‘Atelier‘ label that comprises the earlier this year released Avant-Garde collection, with the HL-RS models and the HL-RQ models. Destination is positioned under the new ‘Signature‘ label, which comprises of models with by externally sourced movements. While purists might raise an eye-brow, because of the externally sourced movements, one should also keep in mind that this enables the brand to offer typical Hautlence timepieces in another price range, serving another group of customers. Many of the style codes / DNA that we know Hautlence for are found on the new Destination models.

Destination 03 (shown above) features a partially honey comb dial, a black DLC coated case and dial with orange accents, like the HLQ 04 that we showed you last Sunday. The Destination models are equipped a Soprod caliber 9351/A10-2. This is a modification of the Soprod A10, which is used by many watch brands, and besides hours/minutes it indicates an additional second time-zone hour with day/night indication and a large date. It’s a self-winding movement that offers 42 hours of power reserve.

Positioned at the lower half of the dial is a second time-zone with a day/night indication. The upper half gives the floor to the large date, the brand name and the logo. What incredibly cool, is that above the dial is a sapphire intermediate dial on which the Arabic numerals are fixed, so they appear to be floating weightless – again a signature Hautlence design element.

The second timezone is indicated by means of a sapphire disk with Roman numerals from 1 to 12 printed on it. The disk makes one full rotation in 12 hours and partially overlaps the day/night indicator. Again typical Hautlence design elements!

All three models come in a titanium case, measuring 43.5 mm wide, by 37 mm from top to bottom and 13 mm in height. Destination 01 features a black DLC coated mid case, and lugs, bezel, crown and screws are 18 carat 5N red gold (solid gold, so not plated as suggested before). Destination 02 is entirely made in grade 5 titanium, and Destination 03 is full black DLC coated. Destination 01 features an opaline black dial with ‘Clous de Paris’ hobnail motif, underneath the sapphire intermediate dial.

The case back is closed, except for a small open that provides a view on the balance wheel and the oscillating weight. The Soprod 935I/A10-2 movement is adorned with circular Côtes de Genève. The back is also engraved with the characteristics of this line: the name “DESTINATION”, the series number, the time zones of 12 main cities, along with technical specifications and the brand-specific inscriptions “HAUTLENCE” and “Horlogerie Suisse”. The strap is top notch, hand-sewn, with a rolled-edge and is made of square-scale Louisiana alligator leather.
