Eberhard & Co. - 8 Jours Grande Taille

Eberhard & Co is a brand that always gives me mixed emotions. Do i like their watches or not… some  i like, some not so much. But with the new 8 jours Grande Taille there’s nothing mixed about my emotions. I really like this watch!

In 1997 Eberhard & Co launched their “8 days” collection. Based on that collection Eberhard now comes with a larger sized and freshly designed new version. The previous “8 days” was 39.5mm, the new one is 41mm and this one comes in pink gold. The movement has a patented winding mechanism and with two barrels delivers 8 days power reserve. Part of its precious mechanism has now been unveiled. A porthole on the back reveals the bridge of the large skeleton barrel with its gilded figure “8″: a three-dimensional view that shows the exceptionally long (125 cm) second winding spring at work. The handwound movement caliber 896.1.15 is based on a Peseux 7001. The Eberhard & Co “8 days” Grande Taille has besides hour, minute and second hands, also an 8 day power reserve indicator.  The 41mm large 18K pink gold case has a convex saphire crystal and the screw-down caseback has a porthole showing the large barrel bridge with engraved “8″.

There are two dials, a white one with arabic numbers and a white dial with azur ring below roman numbers . The smal seconds hand is at 6 o’clock and the power reserve indicator is at 9 o’clock. This beauty comes on a black crocodile strap with 18k pink gold buckle with the “E&C” insignia.

Although I am not very much in to Eberhard & Co, I like this 8 Days model. However, perhaps it is just the picture, but my feeling is that the small seconds are a bit too close to the center pinion. Otherwise a nice looking watch! At least it is more to my taste than their watch with the 4 subdials :-)
